Worship

For us, worship is foundation of faith for everything we do.
Worship stands at the center of our life of faith. Through God’s word, water, bread and prayer we are nurtured in faith and sent out into the world.
Connected with and central to everything we do, worship unites us in celebration, engages us in thoughtful dialogue, and helps us grow in faith. It grounds us in our Christian faith.

Worship at the
Purple door church

We are a church whose unity is in Jesus, who gathers us around word and water, wine and bread.  Our worship is the foundation of faith for everything we do.  Worship is fundamentally about what God is doing and our response to God’s loving action in our lives. Worship is an encounter with God, who saves us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We believe that the Holy Spirit gathers us together, speaks to us through the words of Scripture as well as through the sermon, the sacraments, the prayers, and the music. Through worship, we are nurtured by God in order to grow in our faith and discipleship. From worship we are sent out into the world to be active participants in Christ’s mission in the world.

Our worship services have 4 basic movements: Gathering, Hearing, Celebrating and Sending.
Gathering: We sing, pray, and share God’s peace.
Hearing: We hear the Word of God proclaimed through the reading of the Bible and preaching. We respond in faith through confessing our sins, receiving the promise of forgiveness,  and songs, prayers, and offering.
Celebrating: We celebrate Holy Communion at every worship service. It is the Lord’s Table so everyone present is welcome to participate.
Sending: Filled and refreshed by our encounter with God, we are sent out into the world for mission through singing and words of blessing.

Baptism

We are a church whose unity is in Jesus Christ; we gather around Word, water,  bread and wine.  Baptism is a significant part of our faith journey as we come from the baptismal waters to live a new life as children of God.
Our baptism sets us out on a lifelong journey that is characterized by our relationship to God, our relationship to our faith community, our relationships in our community and the wider world. Living our baptismal covenant means living a life of growth in the faith practices of discipleship.

 Communion

Through Holy Communion, we receive forgiveness of sins in the body and blood of Jesus.  With the forgiveness of sins comes life and salvation. Holy Communion is a gift from God given to all who wish to receive.

Weddings

Marriage is a gift of God, intended for the joy and mutual strength of those who enter it and for the well-being of the whole human family. God created us and blessed humankind with the gifts of companionship, the capacity to love, and the care and nurture of children. Jesus affirmed the covenant of marriage and revealed God's own self-giving love on the cross. The Holy Spirit helps those who are united in marriage to be living signs of God's grace, love, and faithfulness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of attire shall i wear?

Attire at all our worship services is however you feel comfortable for worship. On any Sunday at our church you may see athletic shoes, flip-flops, and heels, jeans, shorts, and suits, t-shirts, open collars and ties. When a person dresses out of love for the Lord, the choice of attire is acceptable to God . . . and us.

Offerings/gifts/Tithes?

God’s Word teaches that our offerings to God should reflect our belief that all we have is God’s gift to us. It teaches us that with our offerings we worship and honor God.
Our members bring offerings to God through the offering plate on Sunday mornings, automatic giving programs, and even texting. Our offerings give us the opportunity to  show love to Christ, and to support the work of our ministry as we bring the Good News of Christ’s love to more people.

Do you have a nursery available?

The Nursery is available during the 9:00 and 10:30 Worship services and on Wednesdays during WOW. The Nursery is located in the Education Wing.

How do you handle Holy Communion?

Holy Communion is a sacred meal in which Christ comes to us in and through bread and wine.  We believe Christ is truly present in Holy Communion. When we receive the bread and wine of this meal, we receive his body and blood.
Jesus welcomes ALL to the table.
